The concept was mesmerizing: fish fertilizing the plants, plants purifying the water, and zero need for chemicals. My brain was churning; I thought, \u201cIf they can do it, so can I!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>I hustled down to the local hardware store, armed with nothing but enthusiasm, a worn-out credit card, and a list of supplies that I could barely understand. PVC pipes, a submersible pump, gravel\u2014who knew aquaponics had a shopping list that looked like a treasure hunt? Lo and behold, I woke up one morning to a tragic discovery\u2014three of my goldfish floated to the top, belly up, while the other few frantically struggled for air.
