That\u2019s how I found myself knee-deep in plants and fish one summer, excited about the concept of aquaponics. Yep, you heard me right\u2014my backyard was about to become a miniature ecosystem. <\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Spark_of_an_Idea\"><\/span>The Spark of an Idea<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>It all started when I read an article about how people were growing food in water instead of soil. I still remember the deep sadness when I discovered Finn, my favorite\u2014the most colorful goldfish of the bunch\u2014floating ominously amid the algae.
